Game 1

What a heartbreaker!

Edmonton blew a 3-goal lead and may have lost a lot more than a game, losing 5-4 to Carolina in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Dwayne Roloson left the game with 5:54 left in the third period with a right knee injury.

The Oilers had fun early. Fernando Pisani scored the first period's only goal. Defenseman Chris Pronger added a rare penalty-shot goal and Ethan Moreau had a deflected shot go in, also in the second period. (Defensemen rarely shoot penalty shots.)

Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said Roloson will be out for the series. Ty Conklin will have to show he can play on Roloson's level for the Oilers to remain in the fight. If he can't, the stay may be short.

Jussi Markkanen is the other name to watch for in goal for Edmonton. The finals is a bad time to experiment with goalies, but MacTavish may have no choice but to mix and match Conklin and Markkanen to see who's hot.
