"Corner Gas" coming to U.S.
"Corner Gas," the #1 comedy series in Canada, will be available for broadcast in the U.S. The program, which runs on CTV and reruns on the Comedy Network, is the only Canadian scripted series in the country's Top 20 list of programs.
The program will likely end up in syndication, as opposed to a cable channel. I will try and track more on this as September approaches, since that is when new syndicated programs start to air.
Though the CBC is traditionally the source of Canadian content, the CTV does have a few Canadian shows ("Degrassi" being another that has made its way to the U.S.).
"Corner Gas" takes place at a gas station/restaurant in the fictional setting of Dog River, Saskatchewan.
I caught part of an episode while in Windsor. It definitely has charm and might go over well in the U.S. It is a different slice of Canada than "The Newsroom," the CBC series with a sharp attack against TV news.
