Nice Winter Olympics stories

Cindy Klassen has become the first Canadian to win four medals at a single Winter Games. Klassen won gold in the 1,500-meter long-track speed skating event.

Her other medals at Turin are silvers in the 1,000-meter and team pursuit, and bronze in the 3,000 meter.

Klassen also won a bronze medal in the 3,000 at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

If she wins a medal in Saturday's 5,000, she will be Canada's most-honored Olympian. Speed skater Marc Gagnon and runner Philip Edwards currently are tied with five career Olympic medals.

In case you haven't heard this nice Olympics story. . .

Canadian skier Sara Renner and teammate Beckie Scott were participating in the cross country team sprint. The Canadians were winning, unexpectedly, and it was Renner’s turn to ski. She was climbing a steep hill when her pole snapped. She was in trouble, since skiing with one pole is impossible.

Then a Norwegian team official named Bjoernar Haakensmoen happened to glance over and saw Renner. He rushed over and handed her his pole.

Renner finished the race, and amazingly, Canada won the silver medal.

What a truly nice Olympic story.
