red green honored

The Order of Canada is Canada's highest honor for lifetime achievement and service. And a special heartfelt response from Canadian Corner goes to one of those winners, Steve Smith.

If you are asking who Steve Smith is, you might know him for his alter ego, Red Green, the plaid jacket-wearing man of the duct tape. Smith is the writer and star of the long-running TV series "The Red Green Show" on the CBC.

"The Red Green Show" is wrapping up after 15 years. But the reruns will live on for a long time, I'm sure.

Now, some of you in the United States have probably seen Red Green on your local PBS station. I have run into quite a few people who know of Red Green but have never watched the CBC or set foot in Canada.

So congratulations to Steve Smith, a true legend. In honor, I think he should duct tape the award to his mantle.

NOTE: Judith Thompson also received the Order of Canada. She is a celebrated playwright. But she also wrote the screenplay for Lost and Delirious, a lovely Canadian film I have enjoyed. While the movie does star American actresses Mischa Barton (from the O.C.) and Piper Perabo, the star to me is Jessica Paré, a Montreal-born actress. Paré also was in Stardom.
