NFL coming to Canada?
NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue even weighed in on the prospect of the NFL coming to Canada. Tagliabue said during his state of the league address that the league has no plans to expand into Canada.
In October, Tagliabue did suggest Toronto might host a regular-season game next season, the way Mexico City did in 2005, but on Friday he also shot that down. Mexico City did host San Francisco and Arizona (home team).
He noted that it will be difficult to play a regular-season game outside of the United States in the 2006 season.
The most logical place is Toronto and the Rogers Centre. The other two stadiums that can handle an NFL crowd are B.C. Place in Vancouver and Olympic Stadium in Montreal. Vancouver (Seattle) and Toronto (Buffalo) have nearby NFL teams that could be a factor in expansion.
Still, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have hosted NFL exhibition games. Here’s a list of those games (info from nfl.com)
