TDS begins Canadian election coverage
No surprise given the Colbert treatment of the Canadian election on "The Colbert Report," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" has begun its coverage of the Canadian election.
(Editor's note: Jon Stewart is an executive producer of "The Colbert Report." Also, like Colbert's show, TDS is shown on CTV and the Comedy Channel in Canada.)
Last night, Stewart did an expanded piece on the take of the election. Like Colbert, he ripped on the lack of bite to the negative ads. He also physically compared Stephen Harper to Rex on "Desperate Housewives." Stewart even threw in a little fake French to piss off the Quebecois.
However, Stewart's main target was the rules set up so that news parody shows couldn't have access to debate footage. Stewart said they pulled the clips they did show off the Internet.
I expect more great coverage next week, especially on Tuesday (they air at 11 p.m. ET in the U.S., but tape around 5:30 p.m. ET so they won't know the results until Tuesday).
The segment wrapped up with Canadian Samantha Bee, a "reporter" on the show, scolding Stewart via phone for messing with the CBC. Stewart might even receive a sternly worded letter in response.
