Grey Cup lineup set
Congratulations to the Montreal Alouettes and the Edmonton Eskimos, who will play for the 93rd Grey Cup Sunday in Vancouver. These teams have done this dance before: this will be the 3rd time in the last 4 years that these two teams met for the Cup.
Montreal defeated Toronto 33-17 at Rogers Centre in Toronto. In the nightcap, Edmonton upset B.C. at home 28-23 to clinch the West crown. For details, see the descriptions earlier today in Canadian Corner.
The Grey Cup will be November 27 at 6p EST at B.C. Place in Vancouver (sites are determined long before the season starts). The game airs on CBC in Canada (in HD) and on selected sports cable channels in the United States.
As for predictions, I have clearly been awful. Going with the home team works a lot for picking successfully. Toronto and B.C. each had an extra week to prepare against a team it knew well. Neither team looked like it used that week well.
Montreal and Edmonton truly earned their way to Vancouver. That is why they play the games.
So how much of a role will Jason Maas play for Edmonton? Will he be "the man" off the bench for the third straight week? Can Edmonton's defense stop the high flying Alouettes' attack?
Can Montreal's defense rise again like last week? Can the Alouettes' running game continue to do well? How will Anthony Calvillo do against Edmonton's tough defense?
Each team won one recent Grey Cup against the other. Montreal won in 2002 and Edmonton returned the favor in 2003. This may decide which team is the best in recent times.
We'll know Sunday night!!
