Tories in front?
I will state again for the record that I don't think much of polls. Yes, they have some merit, but how much is undetermined, and certainly less than the MSM gives them credibility.
But it is worth noting that the Conservatives are leading in some polls, and whether it's true, that information is "newsworthy."
If some people feel like I have a bias against the Conservatives, and think that is why I feel this way about the news, that is not quite true.
I'm still trying to figure out a lot of things about Canadian politics, so I don't know how national polls figure into the equation. In the U.S., national polls work for a person running for a national office. MPs run in ridings, districts for our American readers, not on a national scale.
Whether your favorite leader is Martin, Harper, Layton, Duceppe, or someone else, you can only vote for that person if you live in that riding. You certainly can vote for the candidate in your riding, and hope your party wins a majority in Ottawa.
Unless the Conservatives have a majority, it will be difficult to see how long a minority can last. But it doesn't mean it won't happen.
On a related note, I think I'm going to have a chance to observe the January 23 election with ex-pats. Details are still unavailable. But hopefully, I will have an enriched experience on that Monday night that I will share here at Canadian Corner.
