Getting ready for Monday night

My sources tell me that C-SPAN will start carrying coverage from the CBC at 9:30 p.m. EST Monday night for the Canadian election. Election results should pour in beginning at 10 p.m. EST.

There are parties in major cities to gather people to watch the results. Otherwise, you can organize your own "Canadian election party."

It is my understanding that C-SPAN itself will carry the feed (that is what happened last time). I recommend that you know where C-SPAN and C-SPAN2 are on your cable system, and be ready.

BTW, results can't come in until 10 p.m. ET because that is when the polls close in British Columbia and the Yukon. This is different than the last federal election. In June 2004, all Canadian media organizations were legally allowed to publish results across the country as soon as they became available.

In May 2005, the B.C. Court of Appeal reversed the lower court's decision and upheld the news ban. The Supreme Court of Canada will probably rule on the appeal before the next federal election. So we will get to see how this democracy "experiment" works.
