'Late Late Show' going to Winnipeg?

Conan did Toronto, so is Craig doing Winnipeg?

Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz and other officials are trying to get CBS late-night host Craig Ferguson to do some episodes of the "Late Late Show" in Winnipeg, Manitoba, according to the Winnipeg Sun.

The move parallels NBC's Conan O'Brien, who took his Late Night show to Toronto's Elgin Theatre for four days in February 2004.

Ferguson has mentioned Winnipeg several times on his show -- one possible connection is that he shot a movie, "Niagara Motel", that just opened recently.

The article speculates that the site would be the Burton Cummings Theatre, named after the former lead singer of the Guess Who.

Toronto reportedly offered between $1 million and $2 million to Conan's producers to lure the show after tourism suffered due to SARS.

Conan had fun with Toronto, but incorporated other Canadian elements. One thing to consider is how Ferguson will incorporate Winnipeg into the show, and whether he will spotlight other parts of Canada. At least, we won't hear "Go Leafs Go," a popular chant during Conan's stay.
